Police in Kampala, Uganda, have arrested a notorious suspect who has been impersonating an army officer.

Kakaire Yusuf was arrested on Tuesday, October 29 by officers from the Kampala Metropolitan East Headquarters at Jinja Road.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Kakaire, who has been referring to himself as ‘Major Kakaire’ or Major Asiimwe’, has falsely claimed to be an army officer working within the Office of the President.

“Through this alleged impersonation, he is accused of attempting to extort and steal items from unsuspecting members of the public,” the Uganda Police Force says.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Police Spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan, says that upon his arrest, Kakaire was found in possession of suspected stolen items, along with multiple forged identification documents.

“We urge members of the public, particularly anyone who may have experienced interactions with this individual or been affected by his alleged actions, to come forward and reach out to our offices at the Kampala Metropolitan East headquarters on Jinja Road,” Owoyesigyire urges the public.

The suspect is currently undergoing processing and will face formal charges in court upon the completion of ongoing police investigation.
