Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has signed a fresh five-year contract, securing his tenure at the Emirates until at least the summer of 2028.
The 24-year-old Norwegian midfielder initially joined the Gunners from Real Madrid on loan in January 2021 and penned a permanent four-year deal in August of the same year.
“Signing a new contract was a really easy decision for me for lots of reasons. I’m really excited for what’s to come here. I’ve found a place where I can be really settled and call my home,” Odegaard said.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his satisfaction with Odegaard’s contract extension, terming it as a shot in the arm for the club.
“I’m really happy for him. It just shows there are many ways to make it. Ultimately, it’s about finding a place where you are comfortable and valued and can express your talent. He’s loved by everybody,” Arteta remarked.
Arsenal fans come up with new chant for Odegaard
Arsenal’s unbeaten streak in the new season continued with a 1-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, September 17, 2023, finally putting an end to their unfavourable history at the venue.
Belgian import Leandro Trossard came off the bench in place of Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli to net the sole goal of the match.
Arsenal supporters were understandably elated with the win as they left the away section, and a video has surfaced featuring a new chant dedicated to their captain.
The chant appears to be set to the tune of the darts anthem ‘Chase the Sun’ by Planet Funk, with the lyrics celebrating Odegaard’s prowess on the field.
Following the victory at Goodison Park, Arsenal climbed to fourth place in the standings, trailing leaders Manchester City by just two points.
Their next match is at home against Tottenham Hotspur in the highly anticipated North London Derby on Sunday.
