Kai Havertz finally opened his Arsenal account at the tenth time of asking as he dispatched a second-half penalty in a commanding 4-0 win away to Bournemouth.
The German has faced recent criticism for his inability to make a significant impact in matches since his £65 million summer transfer from Chelsea but on Saturday he helped Arsenal narrow the gap with Manchester City to just one point.
The majority of Arsenal fans, who had previously been critical of the 24-year-old Champions League-winning player, rallied behind him after his performance at the Vitality Stadium.
The traveling supporters even created a new chant in admiration of the attacker, humourously referencing the significant amount the club spent to acquire him from Chelsea.
“Tsamina mina, eh, eh… Waka waka, eh, eh… Sixty million down the drain… Kai Havertz scores again,” the fans sang.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who has consistently supported Havertz, expressed his satisfaction with the fans’ gesture. He acknowledged that such support can only positively impact the midfielder’s performance.
“I’m so happy with our supporters for the way they made him [Havertz] feel. If there’s a player who deserves that it’s him. To show that empathy to a player that has some question marks they warmed me even more today,” Arteta said after the match.

Bukayo Saka had earlier opened the scoring for Arsenal with a header from close range in the 17th minute, and Martin Odegaard extended their lead by converting a penalty just before halftime in the 44th minute.
Ben White’s header in stoppage time, occurring in the 93rd minute, added the final flourish to Arsenal’s convincing victory on the southern coast.
As a result of this outcome, Arsenal remain undefeated in the Premier League this season, amassing a total of 17 points from their seven games played.
