Arsenal flies players to Dubai after Liverpool drubbing

Arsenal has flown its players to Dubai just two days after they crashed out of the FA Cup in the third round, losing 2-0 to Liverpool at the Emirates.

In a statement released on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, the club stated that the one-week stay in Dubai will allow them to intensify their training sessions in the sunnier climate, considering it is winter in Europe.

“Taking advantage of the Premier League’s winter break, Mikel Arteta, the coaching and support staff, and the players will be in Dubai until Tuesday, January 16,” the statement reads in part.

The Gunners have regularly traveled to Dubai over the past few years during the chilly British winters, seeking training conditions in warm weather. They return to action on Saturday, January 20, 2024, against Crystal Palace at the Emirates.

“This year’s opportunity provides the squad with the chance to work hard together ahead of the second half of the campaign, as well as a host of training sessions in sunnier climes,” the club added.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to sign Onana

With only two trophies to aim for – the Premier League and the Champions League – Arsenal is aware that they face a challenging task and will likely need to strengthen their squad.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is hopeful for reinforcements to get their season back on track. However, having spent handsomely in the summer, including a record £100 million plus £5 million in add-ons on Declan Rice, the Spaniard may not have much to spend before January ends.

Arsenal’s recruitment strategy under Arteta has primarily focused on young talents. According to Football Insider, the Gunners are considering a move for 22-year-old Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
