Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal: Villa ensures the Gunners remain second-placed in the EPL

Aston Villa recorded yet another win in the English Premier League getting a narrow win against Arsenal three days after beating defending champions Manchester City.

The Villans win saw them move two points up the Premier League table to third place behind Arsenal who were knocked out of the summit by Liverpool.

A John McGinn’s early goal was enough to earn Unai Emery three cool points in a match played at Vila Park, making it the 15th successive home win.

Mikel Arteta’s boys had a late Kai Havertz effort ruled out for handball by referee Jarred Gillett, with the video assistant referee upholding the call after a lengthy review.

Despite Arsenal pressure, Villa held on to back up their statement victory over champions Manchester City on Wednesday and record a club record 15th straight home league victory.

Defeat will be a blow for title-chasing Gunners, whose run of six straight wins in all competitions came to an end.

Are Aston Villa title contenders after beating Arsenal and Man City?

Aston Vila Manager Unai Emery believes it is still early to call them title contenders.

However they are the only club this season not to have dropped in points from a winning position.

“I will speak again when we are in game 30 to 32 and if we are in the same position as now then maybe I can speak about it,” Emery told Sky Sports after beating his former employers.

“At the start we are not a contender, it is only game 16. We are in [the top four] and must try to keep it.” said Unai

Villa are at 35 point in third place after 16 matches with 11 wins 2 draws and 3 losses.
