Tanzanian musician Aslay has stated that the breakup of the Yamoto Music Band can be attributed to Rayvanny’s arrival at Diamond Platnumz’s Wasafi Records.
Yamoto, a renowned music group consisting of Mbosso, Beka Flavour, Enock Bella, and Aslay himself, had been a dominant force in the Tanzanian and East African music scene during the mid-2010s, consistently delivering hit songs.
However, the group’s unity began to unravel, and Aslay believes that Rayvanny’s association with Wasafi Records was the final blow.
In an interview with Millard Ayo, Aslay admitted that the band was already facing internal challenges, but the situation took a dramatic turn when Rayvanny was introduced as a Wasafi Records artist in 2016.
Rayvanny’s swift reception at the label, including the gift of a Toyota Rav 4 for his transportation needs, reportedly stirred envy among the Yamoto members.
“Rayvanny was gifted a [Toyota] Rav 4. When Rayvanny joined in that manner, everyone wished they could achieve something similar for themselves,” Aslay said.
The allure of solo success and the possibility of similar rewards became too tempting for the Yamoto members, leading them to consider pursuing individual careers.

Aslay disclosed that he was the first to depart from the group, launching his debut solo track ‘Kidawa.’ Following his lead, other members of Yamoto also embarked on their solo projects.
“To be honest, it eventually seemed like the group was heading towards dissolution because everything was going downhill, not in the direction we had hoped for,” Aslay disclosed.
Despite efforts by their former manager, Mkubwa Fella, who is also associated with Diamond Platnumz’s Wasafi Records, to keep the band together, the members’ ambitions and desire for personal success ultimately prevailed.
