At least four dead after sewer line collapses in Shauri Moyo

Four workers have been confirmed dead after a sewer that was under construction collapsed in Shauri Moyo Estate, Nairobi. Three other workers survived the incident after an alarm was raised stating that seven people had been stuck in the rubble.

National Police Service spokesperson Resila Onyango stated that only the three had been left alive,she at the same time indicated that rescue teams rescued three people.

“They were excavating a sewerage line when it collapsed. We lost four people, and three were rescued,” she said.

Rescuers from the county government and the Kenya Red Cross responded quickly to the site and rescued the three individuals.

“Rescuers have saved three individuals and transported them to Mama Lucy Hospital, thanks to a joint effort by the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade, NMS Ambulance, Kenya Red Cross, and Kenya Police,” Kenya Red Cross said in a statement.
