Atheists welcome Kindiki’s decision to criminalize Makenzie’s church

The Atheists Society of Kenya has welcomed Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki’s decision to declare Controversial Preacher Paul Makenzie’s Good News International Ministry an Organized Criminal group.

According to the Atheists society President Harrison Mumia Some religious leaders are taking advantage to manipulate their followers who flock churches in search of wealth.

“A toxic Cocktail of Poverty , Poor Education and easy access to entertaining online sermons have helped such cults thrive in Kenya, to deadly effects” Read part of the Statement by the Atheists Society.

“Alot of Kenyans are flocking to churches in the hope of finding jobs, wealth and other material possessions. Some Pastors ,so called prophets and men and Women of God are taking advantage of this situation resorting to falsehoods, trickery and theatrics to manipulate their followers,

“Religious leaders have a critical role to play in Society , but this role should not come at the expense of exploiting their followers”

According to a gazette notice released by the ministry ,the declaration, according to Kindiki, takes effect from the date of order, January 31, 2024.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 22 (1) of the Prevention of Organized Crimes Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares Good News International Ministries to be an organized criminal group for the purposes of the Act,” the Gazette stated.

Paul Makenzie and 95 co-accused is facing charges for crimes related to murder, manslaughter, radicalisation, cruelty, and child torture.
