Athletics Kenya has officially nominated and endorsed Barnaba Korir for the position of First Vice President in the upcoming National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) elections, scheduled for April 24, 2025.
The announcement was made by Athletics Kenya President Lt. Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei, who praised Korir’s long-standing commitment to youth development and his instrumental role in the growth of Kenyan athletics.
Korir, currently the Director of Youth and Development at Athletics Kenya and a NOCK executive member, has been a key figure in organizing major events such as the Absa Kip Keino Classic and the Nairobi City Marathon.
He also served as Deputy Chef de Mission for Team Kenya at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and as Chef de Mission at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Speaking after his endorsement, Korir expressed gratitude to his colleagues, promising to share Athletics Kenya’s best practices with NOCK for the benefit of all stakeholders.
“Athletics Kenya is a key member of NOCK and our mutual working relationship goes back many years. I pledge to build on the success already achieved at Athletics Kenya by sharing our best practices with other member federations of NOCK,” Korir stated.
The NOCK elections will see 29 delegates from affiliated federations vote for new office bearers. Korir’s candidacy is seen as a move to further strengthen Kenya’s Olympic movement, especially in athlete welfare, capacity building, and organizational excellence.
The race for NOCK leadership is expected to be competitive, with several sports administrators vying for key positions as the organization prepares for a new era following President Paul Tergat’s completion of his term.
