Athletics Kenya gears up for World Relays trials, eyes Tokyo glory

Athletics Kenya (AK) is set to host the highly anticipated trials for the World Athletics Relays on April 12, 2025, at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

This event will serve as the crucial selection process for Team Kenya, which will compete at the World Athletics Relays scheduled for May 10-11, 2025, in Guangzhou, China.

Beyond the immediate goal of securing spots for the World Relays, these trials also form a significant part of the broader preparations for the Road to Tokyo, with the World Championships on the horizon.

The trials will feature a range of events designed to identify the nation’s top relay talent. Athletes will compete in the 100m and 400m sprints for both men and women, as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

The competition is expected to be fierce, with athletes vying for the chance to represent Kenya on the global stage.

In addition to the trial events, AK has also included non-trial (exhibition) events to provide athletes with opportunities to achieve qualification standards for the World Championships in Tokyo.

These events include the 110m and 400m hurdles for men and women, the 3000m steeplechase for both genders, high jump, long jump, and javelin throw.

Athletes participating in these exhibition events will also be eligible for prize money.

The trials are expected to attract a large number of athletes, coaches, and fans. AK officials have emphasized the importance of these trials in identifying and developing the next generation of Kenyan track and field stars.

They also highlight the strategic significance of the World Relays as a key stepping stone towards success in major international competitions, including the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

As Athletics Kenya prepares to host the trials, the nation’s athletics community is buzzing with anticipation.

With a rich history of success in track and field, Kenya is eager to showcase its talent and secure a strong presence at the World Athletics Relays and beyond.
