Athletics Kenya names teams for the Africa Senior Championships

Athletics Kenya has named the final team of 59 athletes comprising 26 females and 33 males who will represent Kenya at the 23rd edition of the Africa Senior Athletics Championships that will take place from 21st to 26th June 2024 in Douala, Cameroon.

In a statement from the athletics governing body, the selected individuals are required to report for camp on Thursday 13th June 2024.

“The team will report for the residential training camp on Thursday 13th June 2024.

“The selected athletes below are required to report at Riadha house on Thursday 13th June 2024 at 3 pm.”

The championships will also double as a qualifying event for July’s 2024 Paris Olympics games.

The 2022 World 5000m silver medalist Stanley Waithaka, African Games 1500m champion Mary Ekiru Nyaruai and her male counterpart, Brian Komen Africa 5000m champion Caroline Nyaga, former national 100m record holder Mark Otieno and the 2021 World Under 20 3000m champion Teresiah Gateri, are among the 59 athletes destined for Cameroon.

The championships will double as a qualifying event for the Paris Olympics.

The team will be led by Mr Stephen Mugea Etyang, chairman of Athletics Kenya NPS and head coach Julius Kirwa. The team will report for the residential training camp on Thursday 13th June 2024.
