Athletics Kenya postpones African Games trials in honor of Kelvin Kiptum

The African Games trials that were set for Friday and Saturday at Nyayo Stadium have been postponed by Athletics Kenya. following the death of Kelvin Kiptum.

The announcement made by the Kenyan Athletics federation stated that the all the cancellation was in honor of the fallen hero Kevin Kiptum who died on Sunday 11 February 2024.

“The selection process for the team that represent the country at the African Games which will be held on 18th to 22nd March 2024 in Accra, Ghana, will be announced in due course,” the statement reads.

Kiptum died alongside his coach, Gervais Hakizimana, a Rwandan national, a few days after World Athletics ratified his record of 2:00:35—a record he set at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 8, 2023.
