Athletics Kenya (AK) has raised concerns over the circulation of a fraudulent document claiming to be the federation’s revised constitution. In an official statement, the governing body categorically denied any involvement in drafting or distributing the document.
AK Disassociates Itself from Fake Constitution
“Athletics Kenya (AK) is alarmed by reports of a group of individuals who have purportedly formulated a new/revised constitution of the federation,” the statement read.
“We would like to categorically state that AK is in no way associated with the document as well as the flawed process in coming up with it.”
Accusations Against Unscrupulous Individuals
The federation further accused unauthorized persons of creating the document for their own selfish interests, calling it a distraction from an important calendar year for Kenyan athletics.
“The purported constitution is a fictitious work of a few individuals who have forged the federation’s letterhead and logo to achieve their personal agendas. The unstructured manner in which it is written shows that it did not go through a transparent public participation process, as expected in any legitimate constitutional amendment,” AK added.
AK to Follow Legal Procedures for Any Future Amendments
Athletics Kenya emphasized that any amendments to its constitution will strictly adhere to legal procedures and transparent communication.
“AK is a body that upholds the rule of law and follows laid-out procedures when making constitutional changes. If and when we decide to amend our constitution, we will officially announce it through all media platforms and engage stakeholders in an open process.”
