The senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer who was found dead in his home in Kilimani, Nairobi County, died of a single head injury caused by a bullet.
According to an autopsy conducted today, the bullet wound was self-inflicted, confirming that indeed 54-year-old Tom Mboya Adala died by suicide.
Dr. Johansen Oduor, the chief government pathologist, conducted the autopsy at Lee Funeral Home.
“It was a single gunshot wound that killed the NIS officer, it looks like self-inflicted, so most likely it was suicide. The bullet entered on the right side of the head and exited on the left side,” Dr Oduor told TV47 Digital.
At the time of his death, the Assistant Director at NIS was living with his nephew Francis Oduor at Kirichwa Villas in Kilimani estate.
Oduor says that he last saw him on Monday, June 3 as he went to sleep in his room upstairs.
But the following morning, the deceased could not be seen, despite the fact that the day house help, one Caroline Amanda, had already arrived and prepared breakfast for them.
He climbed upstairs to check up on him but he was not in his bedroom either.
“He asked their watchman Maurice who was at the gate if the deceased had gone outside but he had not. he went round checking the compound just to find him lying dead inside the servant quarters,” a report filed by Oduor at Kilimani Police Station reads in part.
A Glock 19 pistol s/no zkg 589, one spent cartridge and a magazine loaded with 3 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene.
In his bedroom, another spare magazine was recovered loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition and a suicide note ( written on black note book) placed on the bed.
Preliminary investigations have also revealed that the deceased had been battling depression for sometime.
