Comedian Dr. Ofweneke has shared his views on the controversial topic of financial responsibilities in relationships, following Alma Mutheu’s revelation about being the primary breadwinner in her relationship with her boyfriend, Gift Muziq.
Ofweneke weighed in on the idea of men splitting bills with their wives and offered advice to men on how to handle financial responsibilities in marriage.
He strongly advises against the 50/50 approach, stating, “Men of this generation, stop this nonsense of 50/50. It will break your relationship and it will break your marriage. If you are not 100% able to take care of your wife, your family, then brother, do not marry.”
Ofweneke believes that sharing financial burdens equally gives women too much power in the marriage, which can lead to a loss of respect for their husbands.
He elaborated, saying, “You are giving women the power to feel like everything about that marriage is equal,” and warned that this could cause women to lose respect for their husbands.
“When you allow this thing of 50/50, she will even start coming home late at the same time you do. She will talk to you the way she likes. She will give you only 50% respect because she brings the other 50%.”
He further urged men to avoid relying on women’s money, calling it “poison,” and advised men to take full financial responsibility for their families.
“Wachaneni na pesa ya wanawake, pesa ya wanawake ni sumu, wachana nayo,” he cautioned, stressing that sharing financial responsibilities often leads to chaos in relationships.
His remarks emerged a day after Alma, a Kenyan TikTok sensation revealed during an interview that she was “tired” of financially supporting her boyfriend Gift, hinting at a potential separation.
Alma further disclosed that the boyfriend moved in to her place which led them to having arguments over finances.
The conversation about financial responsibilities in their relationship took center stage when Alma stated that she felt overburdened by Gift’s lack of contribution.
“I feel like Gift needs to step up and start working. I’ve done enough to support him, but I can’t keep doing this. Maybe some time apart will motivate him to take his life seriously,” said Alma during the interview
