Azimio is united, nobody has left our coalition

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has disclosed that  Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is intact and will continue to champion for the rights of Kenyans.

Raila refuted reports published in local dailies that there are cracks in the opposition coalition, adding that such reports were baseless and misleading.

Speaking at Manda Island in Lamu County on Monday, January 22, 2024 when he launched a community water project, the ODM leader accused the media of being used to cause unnecessary tension and anxiety among member parties.

“I want to dispel any rumour being spread by irresponsible media. There is no danger of Azimio collapsing any time soon,” he stated.

“There may be sometimes disagreements of opinions on one issue or one another but that does not mean disintegration,” Raila assured his supporters.

According to Raila, such reports were unnecessary and were causing tension among supporters of the coalition as he advised the media to be objective in their reporting.

The Azimio leader clarified that the coalition had stood firm after the 2022 general elections and was focused on liberating the country.

At the same time, Raila castigated the Chief Justice Martha Koome for giving in on demands by President William Ruto to have a meeting with him.

He said the decision by the Chief Justice to sit down and have dialogue with the Executive was an affront to the independence of the Judiciary.

“I have just read that the Chief Justice has gone for a meeting with the president at State House. This in our view is an irresponsible move. If there is supposed to be a dialogue it should be held in a neutral place,” Raila stated.

His remarks were echoed by Mombasa governor Abdulswamad who assured Kenyans that Azimio and ODM party were intact.

Meanwhile, ODM leaders including  former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina have defended Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, saying that he had sacrificed a lot for the party.

The leaders refuted claims that ODM was planning to discipline the Suna East MP, over alleged misconduct.
