The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition is suing National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula for favouring nominated MP Sabina Chege and recognising her as Jubilee Party whip.
The lawsuit, filed by former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, wants the court to obligate Speaker Wetangula to recognise Jubilee Party as a member of the opposition coalition.
Azimio argues that the ongoing disputes in Jubilee — which saw the party disintegrate into two factions (one led by Sabina and the other by Jeremiah Kioni) — are internal issues that could be resolved by a National Delegates Conference (NDC).

Although there was no NDC was convened to resolve the matter, Azimio now accuses Speaker Wetangula of favouring the faction led by Sabina, which has since pledged allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza Government.
The opposition outfit wants the speaker to stop recognizing Jubilee as a Parliamentary Party, yet it is still one of the Azimio coalition parties.
“I have been further advised that the Speaker’s decision to recognize Jubilee as a Parliamentary Party is a personal decision, unconstitutional, with ill motives and intended to cause fallout in the coalition,” the petition reads in part.
The petition adds: “The Speaker acted contrary to the Constitution by declaring that Jubilee Party is a parliamentary party yet it is still part of the Petitioners coalition.”
The Speaker had recognized Jubilee as a Parliamentary Party on 25th October, the day Sabina Chege was removed as the National Assembly Deputy Minority Whip by Azimio.
Raila and Uhuru meet up
This happens a day after retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio leader Raila Odinga met in Kiambu amidst growing concerns of a weakening opposition team.
Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua, the other Azimio co-principal’s were absent from the meeting.
