Kevin ‘Bahati’ Kioko, celebrated musician, digital content creator, and aspiring politician, recently bid an emotional farewell to his stepmother, who was laid to rest yesterday.
The touching tribute, shared on social media, revealed not only Bahati’s grief but also his commitment to honoring her final wishes.
Accompanied by his partner, Diana Marua, Bahati shared moments from the somber day through photos and a heartfelt video recap.
The visuals captured key moments, including their arrival at the burial site.
Bahati standing solemnly beside the casket as he delivered his speech, and the final act of mourners lowering the casket into the ground.
In a deeply emotional caption on Instagram, Bahati expressed his devastation: “It’s been a sad day. It is still unbelievable that you are gone,” he wrote,
followed by several broken-heart emojis. He added, “It was a painful goodbye to the woman that my dad loved last.
Our mum has gone to be with the Lord. #RIP Mama Benja. Salimia Baba Bahati, tutaonana baadaye (Say hello to Bahati’s dad, we will see you later).”
During his eulogy, Bahati shared a poignant memory of his final conversation with his stepmother.
Just weeks before her passing, he had promised to bring her son, Benja, to Nairobi and help him secure a job.
“I talked to her three weeks ago, promising her I would take Benja to Nairobi and give him a job,” he shared while standing by her wooden coffin.
Diana Marua, standing supportively by his side, comforted him through the difficult moment.
Diana later took to the comment section of Bahati’s tribute video, revealing their decision to honour Mama Benja’s memory by caring for her son. In a heartfelt message, she reassured the departed soul:
“She fought her race, and she finished strong! Benja is now our responsibility, rest now knowing that he is in good hands. Rest in God’s paradise, Mama Benja.”
