Barasa: Being a cabinet secretary does not mean you are cleverer than all Kenyans

Kimilili member of parliament (MP) Didmas Barasa has said that cabinet secretaries are not geniuses and they are not cleverer than all Kenyans.

Speaking during an interview with TV47, Barasa noted that a cabinet secretary may have some personal weaknesses.

“Being a cabinet secretary does not mean you are very clever or you are cleverer than all Kenyans,” said Barasa.

Barasa made the remarks in reference to recent remarks by Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirichir, who had alleged that there was nothing the government could do about increased fuel prices.

This was after Chirchir last week told the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Energy that there was nothing the government could do about the cost of fuel.

Chirchir also told MPs that the agreement that Kenya has with the IMF does not allow the introduction of subsidies to cushion Kenyans against high fuel prices.

“There is nothing the government can do to bring down the cost of fuel,” said Chirchir.

On the other hand, the Kimilili MP maintained that the government cannot lack options for helping citizens against high fuel prices.

“This is a time to give Kenyans hope and all persons in leadership positions at any level have the responsibility to inspire hope to the citizens,” said Barasa.

According to Barasa, in times of crisis, all leaders need to put aside their differences and unite in tackling the challenges facing the nation.

He acknowledged that even legislators from Azimio can share their views on the current economic situation and President William Ruto will listen.

“We have a government that is ready to take views from all Kenyans, including the religious organizations, civil society, and opposition leaders on how to improve the economy,” Barasa explained.

He remained optimistic that the fuel prices could still come down, for the benefit of all Kenyans.
