Baringo leaders want Kalenjin elders to harmonise bride price

News

Community leaders in Baringo County are tired of the current trend of fewer and fewer young men entering into marriage.

To sort out this ‘mess’, the elders now want bride price standardised, blaming the high cost of bride price for the continuation of the issue of cattle rustling in the region.

Speaking in Marigat Catholic Church during the wedding of Eunice and Benedict Kemboi, Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap said that any parents have attached bride price to the level of education, a situation that he says has created huge problems for the local youth.

His sentients were echoed by Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren, who said that legislators will zero rate tax on marriage certificates to ensure fundamental rights of a family are upheld.
