Renowned activist and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah dashed to the police on Tuesday morning to file a death threat report against President William Ruto.
Omtatah attempted to file a report at Nyanchwa Police Station and Mosocho Police Station, both in Kisii County but was turned away on both occasions by the police, reports Citizen Digital.
“I have met a bullish OCPD who thinks he understands the law and has refused to take my statement. I will follow the law and ensure that this statement will be on record,” Omtatah vowed.
The human rights defender alleges that President Ruto issued death threats directed at him during a church function at Cardinal High School, Mosocho, on Saturday, December 16.
In his address at the event, President Ruto alluded to using the sword he was given during his swearing-in to deal with those trying to strangle the Housing Levy, remarks that even the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has termed as reckless.
“You know I was given a sword. Do you think it’s for cutting vegetables? It’s for dealing with all these crooks here. I will uproot them completely, and Kenya will move forward,” President Ruto said.
According to the Busia senator, the head of state directed the threats at him and others for challenging his policies, including the Housing Levy, which he has challenged in court.
“As he was speaking, he started censuring those who challenged the Finance Act ruling, particularly on the Housing Levy. He said that he will deal with them with the sword he was given in Kasarani,” the senator said.

Despite being turned away by the two police stations, Omtatah has vowed to record his statement and ensure an investigation is launched into President Ruto’s utterances.
“Even if I fail to take Ruto to court now, he will not be president forever. It will reach a point where he will leave, and we will challenge him. We want that matter investigated,” vowed the activist.
