Batman becomes the first superhero on Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced that the iconic comic book character will be honored on September 26, 2024 ceremony.
Batman will be the 2790th on the Walk of Fame, with the star set to be situated at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard directly in front of the Guinness World Records Museum.
The Walk of Fame’s unveiling ceremonies are generally attended by famous co-stars and friends of the honouree.
Michael Empric, an official adjudicator from Guinness World Records will be in attendance to validate this historical accomplishment.
“The Dark Knight has stood as a symbol of determination, courage, and justice to generations of fans for more than 85 years,” the announcement said. “Batman is recognized across the globe thanks to his portrayal in universally beloved comics, TV shows, cartoons, and movies, and he has transcended his story into one of the great American myths. He is vengeance. He is the night. He is Batman.”
Batman’s selection for the honour is significant in two ways; one, he becomes the first superhero to be awarded a star on the Walk of Fame, a fact to be recognized during the ceremony by Guinness World Records and reflected in his star’s placement. Secondly, he becomes the 20th fictional character to see his name emblazoned in perpetuity on a Walk of Fame star.
Batman was created by comic book artist and writer Bob Kane. Now that the doors for superheroes have been opened, it’s easy to imagine Superman, Wonder Woman, and others getting their turns.
A total of 11 actors have played Batman in theatrically released movies, starting way back in 1943 with Lewis Wilson.
Batman now joins a rich list of fictional characters on the walk that include Bugs Bunny, Godzilla, The Simpsons, The Muppets and Mickey Mouse.
