In a candid chat on the IMO Podcast⁠, Bien, one of the quartet’s voices, spilled the beans on their decision-making process.

It wasn’t about overstaying; it was about craving fresh beats and uncharted melodies. “Band life is one heck of a ride, but sometimes, you’ve gotta tune into new frequencies,” Bien shared.

Furthermore, “Being in a band is an incredible journey, but sometimes it’s also essential to recognize when it’s time to explore new horizons.”

Adding, “We didn’t part ways because we overstayed, but rather, we sought a new job, new experiences, and new challenges. We reached a point where we wanted to venture into something different.”

This sensational group—featuring vocal titans Willis Chimano and Savara Mudigi alongside guitar virtuoso Polycarp Otieno—has been the heartbeat of African music since they struck a chord back in 2005.

Hits like “Sura Yako,” “Unconditionally Bae,” and “Midnight Train” turned them into a symphony of African sounds, resonating across borders.

And get this: they didn’t just make this monumental decision on a whim.

They put in the work, delving deep into counseling sessions for two years, defying stereotypes about guys tackling tough emotional territory. Talk about rewriting the script!

But hold the tears—they’re not bidding adieu for good. Bien made sure to reassure the fans during an interview in Tanzania while hyping up his own solo venture, ‘Alusa, Why Are You Topless.’

Yeah, we’re taking a breather right now,” he said. “But trust me, this intermission’s just a prelude to our encore. Support my brothers on their journeys, and one day, mark my words, we’ll be back in harmony, creating music together as Sauti Sol.”
