The bid to transform TV47 and Radio47 into a modern converged digital-first media house received a major boost on Wednesday, December 4, with acquisition of high-tech equipment.
The equipment — which include cameras, camera stands, lapel mics, podcast equipment, and lights — will be used by the digital, radio and tv (Cape Media Ltd) teams, to produce news and other content elements into one interconnected unit.
Speaking during the handover exercise, Cape Media Ltd owner Prof. Simon Gicharu said that the revamping of TV47 and Radio47 digital department was necessary, especially in a world where the media landscape is profoundly transforming into a digital age.
“We want to see our digital department as a very vibrant unit. On our end as the board of directors, we are committed to facilitate this transformation with whatever help that you need. We want to be the best digital media outlet. However, you must also play your part in positioning the Cape Media brand at the top,” Prof. Gicharu said.
Prof. Gicharu implored the Cape Media team to continue being balance in their reporting.
Cape Media Ltd Editorial Director Mr Macharia Wamugo said the acquisition of the equipment will play a big role as part of the necessary changes meant to deepen the company’s digital-first culture.
According to Wamugo, the equipment will ramp up the generation of unique content for Cape Media Ltd digital platforms, as well as improve the efficiency of broadcast production.
“The equipment will help us achieve our mission and goal as a company — an ultra-modern digital-first newsroom that will give the rest of competition a run for their money. This will entail produce a lot of exclusive content,” Wamugo said.
