Biden confuses Macron with French president Mitterrand, who died in 1996

NewsWORLD

US President Joe Biden, in a recent speech, confused his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron with Francois Mitterrand, the former president of France who died in 1996.

Biden’s mix up took place on Sunday when the 81-year-old was addressing a campaign event in Las Vegas.

In the video, Biden was recounting a Group of 7 (G7) meeting he attended after he was elected in 2020.

Apart from getting Macron’s name wrong, Biden also said that he was leading Germany. Mitterrand was French president from 1981 to 1995, and died in 1996.

“And Mitterrand [Macron], from Germany — I mean, from France looked at me and said — said, “You know, what — why — how long you back for?”  (Laughter.)  And I looked at him, and the — and the Chancellor of Germany said, “What would you say, Mr. President, if you picked up the paper tomorrow in the London Times, and London Times said, ‘A thousand people break through the House of Commons, break down the doors, two Bobbies are killed in order to stop the election of the Prime Minister.’  What would you say?” Biden said, according to a White House transcript.

Biden’s tirade against Trump

Biden continued with his tirade against his predecessor, Donald Trump, who is also seeking for the presidency in this year’s elections.

He also exuded confidence of trouncing Trump, just like he did in 2020.

“Well, guess what?  It’s not going happen.  He’s not — you know what’s going to happen if he loses — he’s going to lose,” he added.

Joe Biden age

This recent mishap — coupled with other mix-ups and gaffes — only opens more can of worms, with critics claiming that he is to old to hold office.

Biden became the the oldest president to be sworn-in at 78 years 61 days in January 2021.

At 81, Biden is the oldest sitting US president, and if he is re-elected this year (November), he will be 87 at the end of his second term.
