Bien dethrones Wakadinali as Spotify’s Top Kenyan Artist of 2024

Bien Aime-Baraza, formerly of Sauti Sol, has cemented his position as a powerhouse in the Kenyan music scene by becoming the most streamed Kenyan artist on Spotify for 2024.

This achievement marks a shift from last year when the rap trio Wakadinali dominated the charts.

Spotify Wrapped 2024, the highly anticipated year-end summary, unveiled the top trends and statistics from the global music streaming platform.

Bien’s impressive rise saw him surpass Wakadinali, who now hold the second position, while his former group, Sauti Sol, landed in third.

Bien’s solo success doesn’t stop there.

Four of his tracks made it to the top 10 most streamed Kenyan songs list, including hits like Lifestyle, Inauma, Ma Cherie, and Extra Pressure.

Lil Maina’s NAKAM SAI took the top spot in this category, further showcasing the diverse tastes of Kenyan listeners.

Globally, Taylor Swift reigned supreme as Spotify’s most streamed artist, with The Weeknd and Bad Bunny following closely.

In Kenya’s podcast scene, 3MenArmy’s The 97s Podcast topped the charts, with Julia Gaitho’s This is Love and Abel Mutua’s The Mkurugenzi Podcast securing second and third places, respectively.

Spotify Wrapped also highlighted the genres driving Kenya’s musical identity.

Afro Beat, Gengetone, and Afro Pop dominated, illustrating the vibrant and evolving Kenyan soundscape.
