Birmingham City have fired Wayne Rooney less than three after they appointed the Manchester United and England legend as head coach on a three-and-a-half-year contract.
The former striker has been shown the exit door after recording only two wins in the 15 games he has been in charge of the club and Monday’s 3-0 loss to Leeds United was the final straw.
“We are committed to doing what is necessary to bring success to St. Andrew’s. Unfortunately, Wayne’s time with us did not go as planned and we have decided to move in a different direction,” the club said in a statement.
Birmingham appointed Rooney, 38, as their head coach on October 11, taking over from John Eustace, who was fired after 15 months at the helm.
Eustace, who the previous season stirred the Blues off relegation despite a myriad of off-field issues, had guided the club to a bright start. The 43-year-old left Birmingham in fifth place with 18 points from the opening 11 matches.
Since taking over slightly over two months ago, Rooney has guided Birmingham in 14 Championship games – Middlesbrough, Hull City, Southampton, Ipswich Town, Sunderland, Leicester City, Cardiff City, and Stoke City, among others.

The England legend has only managed two wins in 15 games (2-1 over Sheffield Wednesday and 1-0 over Cardiff City). He has managed four draws against Ipswich Town, Rotherham, Plymouth Argyle, and Bristol City.
This has seen him manage just a paltry ten points from a possible 45. In the nearly three-month period, the Blues have sunk from fifth to 20th on the log making Rooney lose his job.
