Bishop Gakuyo charged with conspiracy to steal KSh1B

David Kariuki Ngari, alias Gakuyo, was on Monday, February 26 charged at Milimani Law Courts with conspiracy to steal KSh1,052,746,094 from the members of Ekeza Sacco Society Limited.

He was charged with 12 counts, including 1 count of conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to Section 393 of the Penal Code, and 11 counts of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.

Gakuyo denied all the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi and was released on a KSh20 million bond with two sureties and an alternative cash bail of KSh10 million with two contact persons, one of whom must be a public officer.

Additionally, he was instructed to surrender his passport to the court and refrain from tampering with the ongoing investigation.

It is alleged that Gakuyo conspired to steal the aforementioned amount from Ekeza Sacco Society Limited members between 2015 and 2018 at their offices in Yala Towers in Nairobi.

The case will be mentioned on 7th March 2024 for pretrial.
