National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has said that only a coup can help remove President Yoweri Museveni from power.

Bobi Wine emphasized that the time has come for Ugandans to wake up and do whatever it takes to save Uganda from the dictatorial system.

Speaking during a political rally in Kasese, the NUP party leader noted that the opposition needed to be more organized and deliver progress to the people of Uganda.

“I would have addressed you using social media but I have come here physically to show you that I did not give up and I don’t want you to give up,” Kyagulanyi said.

Wine explained that Ugandans’ desire for better governance and better service delivery can only be achieved when the current government is ousted from power.

“NUP is pushing for the trial of President Museveni and his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to answer to charges of violating human rights,” he said.

Police had earlier blocked Bobi Wine’s rally at Kabale primary school sports ground and took away the public address system.

Calls for a coup in Uganda came at a time when several African states had experienced power transitions through coups.

The latest case was the Gabon coup, where President Ali Bongo was on August 30 ousted from power by the military.

As a result, the African Union (AU) has suspended Gabon’s membership after the military ousted President Ali Bongo and took over power.
