Bodaboda rider stabbed to death by angry mob after assisting phone snatcher escape in Kisumu

It is the end of the road for a bodaboda rider who allegedly helped a robber who had snatched a phone from a victim in Manyatta area, Kisumu County, after an angry mob stabbed him to death.

Residents say that Elvis Apollo Ochieng from Bondo, Siaya County, has been operating as a bodaboda rider at Ogango Stage within Manyatta B slums.

On Friday, February 28 around 7:45 pm, the residents say the 24-year-old bodaboda rider carried a passenger who had reportedly snatched a phone from one person along the Kondele-Kibos Road and sped off.

According to Enock Adongi, the Kasule Location Chief who reported the incident at Migosi Police Station, other bodaboda riders and passers-by ferociously gave a chase and pursued the two who were heading to Kaego area.

“… the alleged passenger turned phone snatcher jumped from the motorcycle and disappeared in thin air,” the police report says.

The report adds: “The deceased who was the rider was cornered alone by the mob at Nerea Bridge area, whereby he was subjected to mob injustice and stabbed on the abdomen and back leading him to bleed to death.”

Police moved the body to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue, awaiting autopsy.
