The body of Simion Cheboi—a dental doctor at Iten County Referral Hospital—who went missing on February 21, 2025 was on Friday, February 28 found at Anin Hills in Keiyo North, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The County Police Commander, Peter Mulinge, says police got the report of the body from the area chief.
Mulinge says that so far, one suspect has been arrested, a local brewer who was last seen with the 48-year-old doctor before his disappearance. She is being held at Iten Police Station as investigations continue.
This comes just hours after Cheboi’s family came out, demanding the authorities to help in finding the whereabouts of their kin.
According to the deceased family, which resides in Kabiego village in Marakwet East Constituency, Cheboi was last seen on February 21 around 11 pm in the house of the local brewer.
Earlier on, the family, led by the deceased’s brothers Barnabas Cheboi and Calvin Cheboi, had called for the prosecution of the local brewer, claiming that she had something to do with their kin’s disappearence.
The deceased and his wife –Alice Chepchumba Chebii– had three children. She narrated;
“I returned home around lunchtime and found the food I had prepared for my husband to eat was untouched. I carried some tea and returned to my shop. In the evening when my daughter came home from school, she passed by my shop before going home to change, have some tea and return to the shop. She told me she left her father sleeping on the couch.”
In the evening, Chepchumba returned home with their daughter, but her husband was not at home. This was not something out of the ordinary as he usually returns home or communicate his whereabouts. She prepared supper, ate with their children and went to sleep.
“I woke up at midnight and he was not in bed. I tried to call his phone, but he was not picking up. An hour later, it went off. I returned to sleep in the hope he would come back that night. He did not,” she said.
