The body of a Kirinyaga businessman identified as Samuel Kagwanja, popularly known as “Chakaka” has been retrieved, more than a week after he drowned in River Sagana.
His body was seen floating in the river where he drowned nine days ago aboard his Nissan double cabin vehicle.
The coast guard, national disaster team, Kenya police, NGAO, Janguani Sagana, fire and rescue officers, Kenya Red Cross who have been leading the search operation, did not find his body despite days of camping at the site.
The late businessman went missing under unclear circumstances on Thursday, May 2. He was reportedly attempting to cross the Sagana bridge when he plunged into swollen River Sagana aboard his Nissan double cabin.
The incident apparently occurred at around 11pm when he was travelling back home from neighbouring Murang’a County.
Search operation conducted by Kenya Defence Force officers was halted until further notice on Tuesday, May 7. Kagwanja was widely known in Sagana and Kagio where he carried out business.
Up until now, his vehicle is yet to be retrieved from the river.
The deceased’s body was moved to Montezuma Funeral Home in Kabati pending autopsy.
