The body of a 24-year-old activist Ibrahim Mwiti who went missing in November 2024 was found at Thika Level Five Hospital mortuary.
His body was discovered seven weeks after he went missing in unclear circumstances.
Mwiti, who was last seen in the Nairobi Central Business District in November 2024, was actively engaged on social media and worked as a delivery man.
Following his disappearance, his family initiated a search, which ultimately led them to find him about 45 kilometers from where he was last spotted.
“We were informed that his case was a hit-and-run incident. We know nothing else about his death,” Sadhiya Iman, the mother of Mwiti, told the press.
“We ask authorities to help us unravel the circumstances of my son’s death,” she added.
The family revealed that the police report they received from the facility indicated that he had died in a hit-and-run accident.
However, the family expressed doubts about this explanation, stating that it seemed unlikely.
For weeks, Mwiti’s family worked tirelessly to find him, only to be met with heartbreak when they discovered his lifeless body at the mortuary. This tragic finding left them with more questions than answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The family had reported him missing at the Kamukunji Police Station on November 15, 2024, under OB number 80A/13/11/24, with hopes that the police could help clarify the mystery of his disappearance.
Mwiti was laid to rest at Langa’ata Cemetery in Nairobi on Friday January 3, 2025, according to Islamic traditions.
This incident has intensified calls for the government to take action against the rising cases of forced disappearances and abductions in the country.
