The family of Brian Odhiambo is demanding for the release of a body, suspected to be of their missing son.
This was after two fishermen spotted a body allegedly belonging to Brian at Lake Nakuru, during a fishing expedition on Monday February 17, 2025.
Odhiambo was last seen on January 18, 2025 as he was apprehended by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers for alleged illegal fishing.
Reports indicate that upon recognising the body, the fishermen were allegedly threatened at gunpoint by game park rangers and ordered to leave.
When Odhiambo’s mother was informed about the discovery, she pleaded for the release of her son’s body for burial.
“The fishermen found the body of my son in the lake on Monday. When they tried to retrieve him, a game park boat arrived. When they identified the body as Brian’s, the rangers pointed guns at them, threatening to shoot. The rangers took the body and left,” said Odhiambo’s mother.
She added that she will accept to pick their son’s body for burial, even if it has decayed.
His disappearance sparked widespread protests and legal battles, with his family demanding answers.
However, DCI detectives investigating the case reported that six KWS officers who were questioned about Odhiambo’s disappearance said that he had escaped hours after his arrest.
Six KWS officers implicated in his arrest are now facing interdiction as investigations continue.
