Marine Police on Lake Victoria on Monday, December 2 retrieved the body of a 22-year-old music band member after their boat capsized.
The accident occurred at around 9 pm when the boat, carrying members of an unnamed music band, was en-route to Gbaga Beach on Lake Victoria, after a performance at Divine Beach.
Uganda Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke says the boat collided with another causing it to capsize.
“People at Ggaba Beach heard cries for help and rushed to assist,” Rusoke says. “While the victims were rescued, one person identified as Wangoda Emmanuel a 22 year old from Sironko District died from the accident and his body has today been retrieved by the Police Marine unit.”
This comes even as the police are warning Ugandans to be wary harsh weather patterns. “We are currently experiencing constant rains that have sparked flooding in some areas in several parts of Uganda.”
On November 24, the police picked remains of a male adult who was found floating on River Mpologoma in Buyemba ‘A’ Village, Lyama Town Council in Budaka District. “We suspect the body could have been swept by flood.”
On November 25, police picked the remains of Julius Ssemambo in Nabweru, South Ward, Nansana Municipality in Wakiso District floating on stagnant water in an abandoned house in Lubigi wetland.
On November 27 along Pakwach – Nwoya Road in Nwoya District, Yahaya Hassan a UNRA engineer drowned in the waters of river Tangi. He was part of the team rescuing passengers aboard a taxi that was stuck in a flood.
Yesterday December 01, 2024, police marines retrieved another body of a female adult from river Tangi. Preliminary finds show that the deceased was among the passengers in the taxi that was being rescued on the fateful day.
