Farmers in Bomet County are set to reap major benefits from a newly launched avocado processing plant project in Boita, Konoin, which will help reduce post-harvest losses and boost earnings.
The KSh 180 million facility will process Hass avocados into high-value products such as oil and pulp for local and international markets. This is expected to provide farmers with a stable market, better prices, and job opportunities in the region.
The plant will enable farmers to move away from selling raw fruit at low prices and instead earn more through value addition.
Beyond financial gains, the facility is expected to create employment along the avocado value chain, from farming and harvesting to processing and export.
It will also reduce post-harvest losses, a challenge many farmers face due to market fluctuations and perishability of the fruit.
County CEC for Agricultural Roseline langat has encouraging farmers to embrace Hass avocado farming to fully benefit from the plant.
She also emphasized to farmers on,Training programs on proper farming techniques and post-harvest handling are being rolled out to improve quality and production levels.
