Political activists Boniface Mwangi, Hanifa Adan and Hussein Khalid have been released from Nairobi Area Regional Police Headquarters.
The trio had on Monday, June 24 noon presented themselves at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters along Kiambu Road.
They had gone there, accompanied by former Chief Justice Dr. Willy Mutunga, to seek an explanation on why there have been a wave of abductions since the commencement of protests against the Finance Bill 2024 last week.
However, Boniface, Hanifa and Khalid were quickly whisked away to Nairobi Area Regional Police Headquarters, for further “grilling”.
This comes amid cases of abductions of people who have been vocal and advocating for the ongoing protests against the contentious bill.
More than 60,000 Kenyans joined an X Space titled “Good Morning Kenya: Where is Crazy Nairobian?” on Saturday, June 22, to call for the release of social media influencer Billy Simani.
Simani would be released on Sunday, June 23 around 10:00 PM with assistance from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
Dr. Austin Omondi, known on X as Japrado, was also abducted on Sunday along Forest Road while overseeing a blood donation drive at Sikh Union Club Chandaria. This is part of the help offered to protesters under the ‘Medics for Kenya’ initiative.
After a public outcry — led by Kenyans at large, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) — the doctor was released.
On Sunday night, Shad Khalif, who has also been vocal online agaist the Bill, was abducted by unknown persons from Sanasana in South B. His whereabouts remain unknown.
