Boniface Mwangi: Why I kiss my children everyday

Boniface Mwangi, a photojournalist turned activist, recently took to social media to celebrate the 14th birthday of his daughter Naila.

In a heartfelt message, he expressed his deep affection for his children, emphasizing the importance of showing love every day: “I kiss my children every day, knowing it could be my last,” he shared.

Mwangi has been an outspoken human rights activist and has made headlines for his role in the protests against President William Ruto’s government. He has faced significant challenges, recently revealing that he contemplated suicide. He revealed that he had even written his will and made final phone calls to some of his close contacts before attempting to take his own life.

In his latest statements, Mwangi made it clear that he believes he is a target for the government, calling out the National Intelligence Service head Noordin Haji and Directorate of Criminal Investigations chief Mohamed Amin, asserting that they will answer for the violence against innocent people.

Describing an incident where two vehicles allegedly connected to the police were seen outside his office, Mwangi voiced his fears but also his resolve: “…I’m ready to die.”

Boniface Mwangi claims these two vehicles had parked outside his office, suspecting that they belonged to the police and were keeping surveillance on him.

“On August 3rd, 2024, l died. I’m enjoying every day like it’s my last, so this overt intimidation, surveillance, and listening to our phone conversations will not stop me. After all, we shall all die.”

He also proclaimed that despite facing intimidation and surveillance, he is determined to continue his activism, quoting Fred Hampton: “You can kill a revolutionary but you can never kill the revolution.”

Mwangi concluded with a reminder of mortality and accountability, insisting that everyone, including those who oppress, will eventually face the consequences of their actions.

He ended his message with the hashtag #RutoMustGo, rallying support for his cause.
