Bungoma: Family stops burial of kin after picking wrong body from Mortuary

National News

A family in Mt. Elgon Bungoma County on Thursday 1st of February were forced to stop their kin’s send off ceremony.

This is after they collected the wrong body from the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.

According to the family, there was a confusion of names at the morgue.

The family then went back to the mortuary and couldn’t locate their relative’s body.

However, the management informed them about the situation, forcing the family to transport the body to Sasur.

Nancy Kibindio’s family traveled to Sasur to return Wilson Chebucho Matwai’s body and take away her body instead.

Assistant Chief James Barasa Kabunje of Sasur noted that the problem could be attributed to the similarity in the names of the deceased individuals.

“The family of the other body went to the mortuary on Friday, February 2nd, and confirmed that the body of their loved one had been taken away the previous day, and those who had taken it are of Wilson Chebucho Matwai’s family,” he said.

He urged families to be keen whenever picking up the bodies of their loved ones from mortuaries.

The family proceeded with the burial later once the issue had been resolved.
