A Member of Bungoma County Assembly (MCA) is nursing injuries at the Eldoret Teaching and Referral Hospital following a confrontation with police officers.
Kamukuywa Ward MCA Abraham ‘Obama’ Kimungui was reportedly shot in the confrontation after he allegedly caused chaos, demanding for the release of a truck that had been impounded for ferrying counterfeit goods.
It all started on Tuesday, January 8 at Mapera area in Kamukuywa Ward, Bungoma County, when a multi-agency operation busted a consignment of illegal ethanol.
Mt Elgon Sub-County Police Commander Moffat Mong’era says the MCA, who is the owner of the illegal consignment, had mobilised over 50 goons with the aim of disrupting to retain the lorry holding 35 drums of ethanol, each drum holding 250 litres.
“At the time, the MCA came with around 50 goons armed with crude weapons, stones, sticks and petrol contained in plastic bags. The intention was to disrupt and fight to retain the consignment that brouight a commotion at around 2100 hours,” Mong’era told this reporter.
He added: “This is after yesterday’s chase of which the owner of the consignment managed to defeat and evade the officers into the place the consignment was found.”
The police boss says during the chase, they managed to arrest two suspects, who would be released by the goons allegedly brought by the MCA.

Although the family of the MCA says that he was shot by police, Mang’era says that what injured the county lawmaker has not been ascertained.
“During the commotion, the MCA got injured with a sharp object which is yet to be confirmed because investigations arw still ongoing and was taken to Bungoma County Hospital, before being referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.”
