Veteran journalist Rita Tinina who passed away last Sunday, will be laid to rest at Noosupeni Farm Olokirikirai, Narok County on Wednesday, March 27.
This will be preceded by a memorial service on Monday, March 25 at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi starting 10am.
“The cortege leaves Umash Funeral Home Nakuru on 27th March 2024 at 7.00am for the funeral Service and burial at their home, Noosupeni Farm Olokirikirai, Narok County,” read her obituary.
Funeral arrangement meetings are being held at All Saints Cathedral from 5.30pm daily up until the memorial service.
An autopsy procedure performed on Tuesday, March 19 has revealed that she died of severe pneumonia, family spokesperson Timothy Nyaga revealed.
The post mortem was conducted by pathologist Dr. Michaka.
Mr Nyaga said the family was satisfied with the autopsy results and now have closure.
Rita Tinina’s death shocked netizens after her body was discovered in her home in Kileleshwa on Sunday afternoon.
She was scheduled to be on duty at her work place earlier that day. According to her colleagues, calls went unanswered and efforts to reach her bore no fruits.
This prompted a visit to her home where the househelp broke the tragic news. Her body was moved to Umash Funeral Home, awaiting autopsy as police launched investigations to establish the cause of her death.
President William Ruto was among leaders who poured in tributes to the celebrated media personality.
“My sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Rita Tinina – a pioneer and a trailblazer in TV journalism. “Rest In Peace, Rita,” he wrote.
Azimio leader Raila Odinga also expressed his heartfelt condolences to Rita’s family.
“From her earliest days at NTV, Rita’s dedication to journalism left an indelible mark on Kenya’s media landscape.
“Her passing leaves a void in the industry, yet her legacy of storytelling and integrity will endure,” Odinga wrote.
The blazing journalist leaves behind her eight-year-old daughter, Mia Malaikah and partner Robert Nagila.
