Buruburu 4: Mother narrates discovering her son’s death on TV

National NewsNews

Days after four men were fatally shot in Buruburu, Nairobi County, two of their families have positively identified their kin.

Emerging reports now indicate that two of the deceased, Brian Mwangi and Julius Mwangi were cousins.

Margaret Mwangi, mother to Brian Mwangi, narrated to Inooro TV how she discovered her son’s shocking demise on television on Sunday evening.

“On the evening of 24th I was seated on the couch watching the evening news when I saw the story of four men who had been killed in Buruburu.

“I was shocked seeing so many bullet holes on that car and told my kids, ‘if these people had machetes with them how would they be shot at like that’. I went to the kitchen to check on food as I was cooking,” she narrated.

Is that Brayo?

Moments later her children called her back to the living room asking why one of the suspect’s name was named Brian Mwangi just like their kin.

She would later discover that her son Brian was among the four who were shot on December 24 at around 6am by unknown people.

It is said that Brian Mwangi, a father of one, left his mother’s house in Gitaru, Kiambu County after preparing lunch for the family.

He had just accompanied his wife and one-year-old daughter from their home in Umoja to stay with his mother and siblings over the Christmas period.

Two of Buruburu four were cousins

Mwangi, who is a second-hand clothes dealer, reportedly planned a birthday party for his daughter which coincided with Christmas Day.

“Life is going to be very tough for us. I do not have a job, Brian was the provider in our home,” Fridah Nyambura, Mwangi’s wife, narrated shedding tears.

On her part, Jane Muthoni, said her son Julius Mwangi was set to travel upcountry on December 23 for Christmas. She reportedly tried contacting him to inquire whether he had arrived safely, only to be met with unanswered calls.

Oblivious to her, Julius Mwangi had been shot dead about one kilometer from Buruburu police station. He is said to be a scrap metal dealer in Umoja.

“I cannot defend him but all I can say is if he had done any wrong there are laws. I am told they were not armed with guns, neither had they stolen the car. So I do not understand why they were killed.

“I am urging Prof Kithure Kindiki to intervene so that we can get justice,” Muthoni explained.

As investigations into the bizarre incident progress, autopsy of the four bodies is expected to be conducted today (Wednesday) at the City mortuary.
