Residents of Masiebi village in Butula constituency, Busia County were shocked after a 62-year-old woman allegedly returned home, two weeks after her death.
The woman identified as Margaret Namenya returned home on Saturday November 9, 2024 after her family had finalized arrangements for her burial.
This is after her family members allegedly confirmed her death, as her body was being preserved at the Busia County Referral Hospital.
“As we were making plans to bring her body here for burial, we were shocked to learn that she is still alive,” said one of the residents.
The woman returned home, a day before her body could be removed from the mortuary.
“It’s me who brought her here on a motorbike, and when we arrived at the compound, mourners were shocked, some ran away as they were waiting to view her body and not to see her alive,” said the boda boda rider who brought her home.
Meanwhile, the burial arrangements have turned into celebrations as her family and members of the community welcome her back home.
Her return has led to the abandonment of the body that was initially believed to be hers at the mortuary.
Elders admitted that the body that was lying at the mortuary was not of Margaret, adding that they will report to the police in order to identify the real family of the deceased woman.
“We were just about to bury the body of a woman who is not part of this family but we are happy Margaret is still alive,” said another resident.
