Business community’s plea to Gen Z amid protests

Business community’s plea to Gen Z amid protests

16th July 2024 was widely talked about as being a major day for the pro-good governance protests.

However, there have been complaints from the business community here in Nairobi.

Early morning, the weather here in Nairobi is somewhat saying ‘not today’; same as the business community in Nairobi, who have now warned goons and looters masquerading as protestor not to do anything stupid.

Over the past two weeks, businesses have suffered losses, but is it because of the protestors, really? Supermarkets, electronic shops, boutiques and other businesses suffered losses after looters and thugs infiltrated peaceful protests and decided to reap where they did not sow.

This is not just in Nairobi alone, rather it happened across various towns and caused major destruction.

Some businesses were forced to close down and well, that was a loss to them. Going back to the drawing board, with uncertainty might as well be order of the day for them.

But the small medium-sized enterprises have now decided they cannot live and operate like that. Tuesday morning, they decided to push the hashtag on misuse of freedom.

Social media has been flooded with posters on businesses not entertaining protests on various roads here in Nairobi.

They say their businesses are not the enemies and as such, they should not have to undergo losses.

They have also added that destructive behaviours during the protests damage their livelihoods and they are urging the protestors and wananchi in general to think about the lasting effects on their own neighbourhoods.

The very businesses the infiltrators are trying to bring down are the same businesses the common mwananchi gets their products from.

The Gen-Zs have also made it clear that anyone caught veering off the agenda which is peaceful protests, will be handed over to the authorities.

Businesses across the country are anxious about the protests and they have put measures to ensure they protect their businesses.

Working together for the same cause will ensure the agenda is well articulated and the people who veer off will be singled out and dealt with.
