CAF announces postponement of 2024 CHAN to August 2025

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has officially announced the postponement of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 to August 2025.

While significant progress has been made in the three host nations in constructing and upgrading stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure, CAF Technical and Infrastructure experts have recommended additional time to ensure all facilities meet the required standards for hosting a successful tournament.

CAF President’s Statement

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the heads of state from the host nations:

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership, commitment, and the good progress achieved. I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of football infrastructure and facilities. I am confident that by August 2025, the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure will meet CAF standards, ensuring a very successful tournament.”

Draw Date Confirmed

CAF has confirmed that the official draw for the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, at 20:00 EAT.

New Tournament Dates

The exact start date for the rescheduled tournament in August 2025 will be announced by CAF at a later stage.
