The leadership of the Kenya Editors Guild on Thursday January 23, 2025 paid a courtesy visit to Cape Media offices to explore potential areas of collaboration.
Cape Media is the company that owns Radio47 and TV47, the fastest growing media brands in Kenya.
The delegation, led by Editors Guild President Zubeida Kananu and CEO Rozalia Omugo, was warmly received by Cape Media CEO Mwenda Njoka.
Other Cape Media employees present included Head of TV Macharia Wamugo, Head of Radio Geoffrey Mung’ou, Head of Strategy Macharia Gachuru, Head of Corporate Affairs Jared Ouma, and several members of the editorial team.
During the meeting, the Cape Media CEO expressed optimism about a fruitful collaboration between the two entities, aimed at upholding the highest standards of editorial integrity.
At the same time, the Editors Guild president emphasized the need for training for journalists, especially on matters of defamation.
Kananu explained that most media houses were battling defamation cases in court, as she urged editors to be careful in fact checking to minimize such cases.
“We have a partnership with the Law Society of Kenya, which has played a big role in handling some defamation cases but as journalists, we need to be always responsible in our reporting,” she said.
