Cape Media in partnership with the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) has launched a triple threat awareness campaign focused on teenage pregnancy, HIV and gender based violence (GBV) in Kiambu County.

Cape Media is the company that owns TV47 and Radio 47, the fastest growing media brands in Kenya.

This initiative highlights the critical challenge of teenage pregnancies and its impact on the quality of life for young girls and the nation.

Such campaigns demonstrate the NCPD’s commitment to addressing critical issues that impact the quality of Kenya’s population.

The initiative was launched on Tuesday Februray 11, 2025, after NCPD CEO Dr. Mohammed A. Sheikh paid a courtesy call at the Cape Media headquarters.

Speaking during the meeting with Cape Media CEO Mwenda Njoka, NCPD CEO Dr. Mohammed A. Sheikh emphasized the importance of investing in the health, education, and well-being of every Kenyan.

“We are moving beyond just counting people,” stated Dr. Sheikh who was accompanied by a section of his management team.

“Our focus now is on ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to reach their full potential. A healthy, educated, and empowered population is the true engine of sustainable development,” he added.

The meeting between Dr. Sheikh and Mr. Njoka, and the subsequent campaign launch, highlight the potential for a powerful partnership.

“As a media house, we recognize the role of the media in finding solutions for some of the problems bedeveling our country. The issue of GBV, is an issue that we focus on and we have a dedicated team that deals with that.

“Its for that reason that we recently won an award from the Kenya Human Rights Council, for highlighting issues of gender based violence and teenage pregnancies,” said Cape Media CEO Njoka.

By raising awareness about the importance of health, education, gender equality, and critical issues like teenage pregnancy, the media can play a crucial role in empowering Kenyans to make informed choices about their lives and contribute to a brighter future for the nation.

The shift towards prioritizing a quality population represents a significant step forward for Kenya.

It acknowledges that investing in people is not just a moral imperative, but also a strategic investment in the nation’s future.
