National sevens rugby team, Shujaa heads into the second round of World rugby sevens series- Cape Town 7s -this weekend 7-8th December, 2024 in South Africa.
Kenya 7s finished 10th at the first round of the World rugby sevens series- Dubai 7s held last weekend at the sevens stadium where they managed only two wins out the five matches they played.
Shujaa have been drawn in Pool B of the Cape Town Sevens where they are set to compete against Spain and Australia on Saturday 7th December 2024, with their first match being against Australia at 12.00 PM before taking on Spain in the last match of the pool stages at 3.16 PM on the same day.
Shujaa will aim for maximum results in the pool stages as World rugby announced a change to the HSBC SVNS 2025 format used in Dubai and last season where now the four pool winners will progress to the Cup semi-finals. The second placed teams will enter the 5th-8th place playoffs and the third placed teams go into the 9th-12th place playoffs.
The new format is a departure from the previous one, where the top two teams qualified for the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile the squad is joined by co-captain Tony Omondi who joined Shujaa for the Cape Town Sevens on Thursday after missing on Dubai 7s due to contractual issues.
Tony Omondi replaces forward Chrisant Ojwang, who was injured in the playoffs match against Ireland last weekend in the Dubai Sevens.
