Caregiver burns six-year-old boy’s genitals for wetting his bed

Officers based at Tarasaa Police Station in Taita Taveta County are holding a 34-year-old woman accused of assaulting her six-year-old kin.

According to a police report, the accused identified as Zawadi Mlewa allegedly assaulted her cousin Alex John Mencha on Friday, March 29.

“At around 0700 hours, his cousin Zawadi Mlewa aged 34 years burnt his private parts using burning papers for wetting his bed. He sustained burns on the base of his penis,” read part of the report.

The six-year-old boy was left under the care of his aunt Bahati John and cousin as his mother Linah John works in Saudi Arabia.

After the incident, Zawadi accompanied the boy to Tarasaa Catholic Dispensary where he was treated and discharged.

The victim was referred to Ngao sub-County Hospital for further screening where they also obtained a P3 form.

The case was reported at Tarasaa Police Station and the suspect apprehended.

Zawadi will remain under police custody until Tuesday next week when she will be arraigned.
