CAVB president hails “exceptional” 46th African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship in Libya

As the 46th African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship reaches its grand finale in Misrata, Libya, the President of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), Ms. Bouchra Hajij, has praised the tournament as one of the most memorable and technically advanced editions in the competition’s history.

In a vibrant message delivered hours before the final, Ms. Hajij highlighted the record attendance and electrifying atmosphere at the Misrata International Arena, particularly during the semi-final clash between hosts Swehly Sports Club (Libya) and Rwanda’s Patriotic Army.

“This is a significant step forward in our African competitions,” she remarked, noting the passion of fans inside and outside the stadium as a testament to the continent’s deep commitment to volleyball.

Beyond the passionate crowds, Ms. Hajij emphasized the championship’s technological advancements. For the first time, a Challenge system was introduced, enabling teams to contest refereeing decisions using advanced technology.

The event also featured electronic scoreboards, real-time commentary, live online scoring aligned with FIVB standards, and broadcasts across all 54 African countries.

These innovations, coupled with unprecedented media coverage, have, according to Ms. Hajij, “marked a real step forward for the visibility and credibility of African volleyball on the world stage.”

On the court, the CAVB president lauded the impressive technical and tactical level of play, with closely contested matches underscoring the growing parity among African clubs.

She extended gratitude to all stakeholders and especially to Libya for its exemplary hosting, calling it a symbol of a continent on the move.

The final sees Swehly Sports Club (Libya) face Espérance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia), capping a tournament that has set new standards for African volleyball and inspired pride, unity, and ambition across the continent.
